Dear Cindy,
I am referring to you as an International Rights Manager of O'Reilly &
Associates, Inc.
I recently bought the Bulgarian translation of Linux Network Administrator's
Guide, Second Edition, published in Bulgaria by SoftPress Ltd. I love this
book and I was happy to find that it was published under the GNU FDL, just
like the original edition from O'Reilly. According to this license an online
copy of the book has to be available. In the copyright note of the Bulgarian
book the publisher claims it could be found at:
http://www.soft-press.com/linux/index.html
A scanned copy of the copyright note of the Bulgarian book (which is only in
English and has no Bulgarian translation) is enclosed. Please, note that the
full text of the license at the end of the book has not translation too!
Unfortunately, as of now, the online copy is not available at the address
stated above.
I have written three letters to SoftPress (clients@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx) asking
them to explain why the GNU FDL has been violated, but there has been no
answer from them whatsoever.
I have also posted an article (http://www.bgit.net/?id=10716) in bgIT.net
(an online media, something like a Bulgarian SlashDot) which is the most read
article at the moment but, as you can probably guess, it has had no impact
at all. I have also informed Linux Users Group - Bulgaria
(http://www.linux-bulgaria.org).
So I would like to ask for your cooperation on the problem and, if possible,
to influence somehow your Bulgarian partners from SoftPress Ltd. so they
stick to the GNU FDL.
In case it has no effect, do you think it would be appropriate to inform the
Free Software Foundation about this?
